Anthony T. Polvino
Anthony Polvino is a co-founding partner of Areté Law and is widely regarded as a leading authority in the shared vacation ownership, resort development, and travel products sector. With more than 30 years’ experience, he serves as primary outside counsel and strategic advisor to public and privately held hospitality companies, developers, lenders, and program sponsors nationwide. Clients rely on Mr. Polvino for practical, business-minded counsel on their most complex and high-exposure leisure and hospitality matters.
Mr. Polvino advises clients across the full lifecycle of complex leisure and hospitality platforms, with a focus on the structuring and launch of vacation ownership and membership programs and multistate regulatory compliance matters. He also represents clients in mergers, acquisitions, and joint venture transactions in the leisure and hospitality sector. Clients frequently turn to Mr. Polvino to structure and advise on sophisticated financing transactions, including securitizations and acquisition, development, construction, and receivables facilities.
Mr. Polvino is widely credited with helping design and pioneer the capital-light, fee-for-services business model in the vacation ownership industry. He played a principal role in developing the model’s early architecture and represented clients on both the developer and service-provider sides of the first wave of transactions, continuing in that capacity across more than 20 subsequent capital-light transactions.
Mr. Polvino counsels clients on the design of legally compliant marketing and sales programs and on marketing and consumer protection matters, including telemarketing and do-not-call compliance. He has successfully guided companies through dozens of high-stakes investigations and enforcement actions brought by State Attorneys General on both individual and multistate bases involving the marketing, sale, and servicing of vacation membership and travel products.
Mr. Polvino is a trustee member and serves on the Board of Directors of ARDA (American Resort Development Association), the Washington, D.C.–based trade association for the vacation ownership industry. He is an accredited member of the Academy of Hospitality Industry Attorneys (AHIA), holds Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV® Preeminent™ rating, and was recognized by Chambers USA as a Leading Business Lawyer in Leisure & Hospitality.
